??? POV
Running, running, don't look back. I can't help it. There they are. Slimy slithering creatures that run on four legs grin at me with slathering mouths filled with needle sharp teeth. "Sweetie, come back here."
"We wanted to tear your flesh apart, bash your brains then suck the marrow from your bones!" They keep laughing this behind me. It becomes a chant. I grip the shaking body in my arms tighter to my chest. A boy, I don't even know, groans clutching at the rod buried in his stomach. Hot violet blood streams from his body down my arms soaking into my shirt. This boy helped me, now he might die.
I thought the docks would be safer than the city. It seemed relatively deserted of the predators that seemed to hunt throughout most of the prison. Wrong. I had wandered straight into the territory of sea monsters. Men and women that dwelled there, grotesquely mutated to exist in the water. I was frightened as they started to close in on me, laughing about how tasty their meal would be. "No matter what it takes, even if that means you need to kill, keep yourself alive until I can get you again". His words played through my head a second before I attack. I didn't want to admit it to myself but I was losing. Each time I tore one apart, another leap to replace him. I turned around to late just as one lunged at my neck. In an irruption of water a red and purple creature tackled him in midair. After that every time one of the monsters got through my guard the red creature would launch itself at them and drag them back into the water with him. Then things went terribly wrong. I spun around at the sound of an agonized scream. First thing I saw was that the red creature was actually a teenaged boy, and the second thing was one of the mutants had speared a rod through his stomach. What choice did I have? I picked up his trembling body and ran.
My heart is pounding against my chest as I around another corner of a building. My first instinct is to hide but I can't, not with the boy in my arms. "Everyone else is secondary. You are all that matters, look out only for yourself". I can't though. He helped me now I have to help him.
This place is like a maze. So many twists and turns and like most mazes, filled with dead ends. I stare bewildered at the wall in front to me. The alley has me trapped. I turned to face them as they advance in on me. "Had to run far to catch this one."
"Tear the flesh from its bones!"
"Rip it apart like it ripped us apart."
I screech at them, twisting my face into a gruesome mask. They jump back a few feat. I know that most of their fears is from my eyes alone. I'm only stalling the inevitable. Without warning one of them lunges.
It slams into the alley wall as a figure materializes from nowhere, swatting it aside. The figure turns to glance back at us. It looks like a girl with shoulder length black hair, silver at the tips. She's completely dressed in black but it's her eyes that send a shiver down my back. Their indescribable with white slitted pupils.
"Yes yes more food us eat!" The aquatic monsters start to murmur. The girl beckons with her hand in the universal jester; come and get me. With that all hell breaks loose. A white aura of energy starts to roll off the girl like glowing smoke. The monsters shriek as the silver blades, that were her arms only a moment ago, slice through them. She decimates them, cutting them down or blasting them into bloody messes with the white energy. I backup into to the corner, shielding the boy with my body, and pray for the inhuman sounds to stop. Finally it does. Slowly I look up into the alley. All that remains of the sea monsters is a huge mess of carnage. The girl dressed in black inspects the blades that were her hands. I watch in amazement as they morph back into normal looking hands.
I pressed my back to the wall as she strides up to me. She shorter than I am, everyone is, but she scares me. She completely ignores me and inspects the boy. "This is bad. I can take you somewhere safe where he can get some help." She reaches out a hand. Her hand freezes as I hiss at her, bearing my sharp hooked teeth. She glanced up at me, making me flinch. She bares her teeth as well and their sharp too. "This boy will die unless you come back with me to get him help. I won't hurt you unless you try to hurt me it's as simple as that. Tell me now if you want to come or tell me that you don't so I can stop wasting my time." I consider my options. Refuse her offer or accept. What can I do, let him die? No. "Okay," I mutter. Without saying a word she grabs my wrist. The strangest sensation flows through my body as she teleports.
Xerux's POV.
My head's spinning. I just threw up, again. Getting use to being alive again sucks. On top of looking like a freak I have to deal with getting tired really easily and getting sick from a cup of water. Of fucking water! Rubbing my temples I glance up as Avery hops onto the couch next to me. About a day after she stared living with us, we found out that she had a huge problem with her hormones. She scared poor Ash pretty bad as she started to grope him. Gretchen fixed the problem with some drugs she whipped up. Now every time she sees a guy she looks at them like a confused puppy. She pokes my shoulder. "Leave me alone-" I'm interrupted as Mimic teleports into the middle of the room with two others. "Gretchen get down here!" he shouts. Avery latches onto my arm terrified. There's an unnaturally tall and pale, slender person standing behind Mimic. In um... Her? Her arms is a red and purple creature that looks half boy and half fish. A metal rod is protruding from his stomach. "Shit." I breath.
Gretchen comes rushing down the stairs. She takes one look at the boy and guestures for the tall girl to take him into the infirmary. A crowd has started to from Mimic's shout. Zack looks at Mimic sadly as he quickly follows Gretchen and the other two. Copy runs after them with a worried expretion on her face.
Six hours pass before Gretchen and Copy come back out from the infirmary. Even though it's around one in the morning almost eveyone is still awake. "Is that boy going to be alright?" Sam asks them. Gretchen sighs. "I believe he will make it." People start asking questions but I ignore them. Nobody notices but I do. Moving through the small shadows of the house, she's like a wrath, completely unseen despite her hight. Silently she creeps into the kitchen. I get up and follow.
It's dark in here but I have twenty twenty vision in the dark. I find her easily enough. She's huddled up at the very back of the kitchen, next to the pantry. She jumps as I sit down next to her. "You think you can hide? The shadows are my domain." She stares down at her long slender fingers. This is the first time I'm able to get a good look at her. Her limbs are very long and thin. Her skin is so pale that I can see her veins like the pictures in anatomy books. Her face... She doesn't really have one. She has no nose, a lipless mouth, and black choppy hair that covers her eyes. "What are you doing in here?" She shrugs. "Okay." We sit saying nothing. "If your not going to talk can you at least tell me your name?"
"Sandra," she mutters. "Are you the offspring of Slenderman?" She just keeps looking at her hands. "I don't know who that is." I sigh. "He's a creepy pasta monster."
"Is that what I look like to you?"
"Yes." I know that sounds cruel but I don't lie. "I don't look much better," I say looking down at my own clawed hands. I don't why but she leans her head on my shoulder. We sit like that in the dark.
??? POV.
My stomach. Why does it hurt. Slowly I try to sit up. The pain becomes to muck. I fall back onto pillows as I almost black out. "Wow, don't move! You'll hurt yourself. Here, let me help you." I feel someones hands on my body, gently helping me sit. I finally manage to open my eyes. The first thing I see is a boy with huge green eyes and a dark scare across his face. "How ya feeling?" I groan. "I feel like something is trying to rip through my belly." My voice is scratchy and dry. "I need water," I croak. Nodding he picks up a cup on the table next to my bed. "Here." I'm so weak that I can't lift my arms to take it. He presses it to my lips. The water refreshes me. After I empty the cup the boy looks me over. "What's your name?"
"Hunter."
"You certainly look the part." I guess he's right.
I run my tongue over my teeth and feel their sharp points. "I'm Kevin by the way," he says. "Hi Kevin."
Kevin sits with me for a few hours, explaining to me where I am. "Your welcome to stay here if you want." I consider his offer. Stay here with people that won't try to kill me or go back to the water, where it's a fight for my life every day from those scary monsters. Really? That's a no brainier. "Thanks I think I will."
A little later a small lady walks into the room. She's wearing a lab coat like Dr. Darwin. I miss her, she was really nice. When Kevin sees her he gets up. "Hunter, this is Gretchen. She's the one who fixed you up. I got to go, see ya later." He waves back at me as he walks out. I look up at Gretchen. "Is there anything you need?" She ask. "No I'm feeling pretty great right now but my tummy hurts a lot."
"Well I'm sorry to tell you that your stomach is going to hurt for quite a bit."
"Awww."
"Lighten up, at least your not dead."
"Meh."
The people here look funny. I think about them as cold water runs down me. I asked Gretchen if I could take a shower and she said yes. It hurt to stand but it felt good to have water on my body again. I didn't know that showers had hot water and I don't like it. I look down at my purple and red hand, spread the fingers apart to rub the webbing between them. Why aren't they more colorful? Everyone here is different colors of white-pink or brown, some are even gray. Very boring. I saw a guy wearing a weird thing over his face. I asked Gretchen what it was. "That's Fox," she said. That didn't help. What's a fox?
I grip my belly as it starts to hurt more. Shuttering I lean against the shower wall. The spiked fins lay against my back as they press the wall. I stare down at the big fin at the end of my tail. These people are nice but look like Dr. Darwin. Is that what people actually look like?
Later that night I'm laying down in a bed in a room a guy named Mike helped me to. I thought he was a girl. He and his brother, Ash, have really long hair. My tummy still hurts really badly. Those other people that lived with me at the water are mean, they were always mean. They tried to hurt me, always chased me, always scared me. I'm happy that girl helped me. She was scary too but when the mean people were trying to hurt her, she looked sacred. I felt mean when I didn't want to help her. I'm very happy that I did. I need to tell her thank you in the morning. Dr. Darwin always said it was the nice thing to do when somebody helped you. That means I need to say thank you to everyone here, they helped me. They'er going to let me stay here. I look at my wiggly reflection in my glass of water on the table next to my bed. I see one royal blue eye, that's what Dr. Darwin called it, and a white and black one. Both of the black dotes in the middle of my eyes are really big. "That helps you see in the dark, Hunter." I miss you Dr. Darwin, you were so nice. You made me feel safe.
